Storm Survey Complete: Tornado Confirmed in Central New York
Another Tornado Confirmed in CNY Brings Season Total to 12
Mother Nature just keeps adding to the list.
The National Weather Service has now confirmed a tornado touched down in Central New York.
The latest twister happened in South Brookfield in Madison County on the afternoon of July 29. According to the National Weather Service, it was rated an EF-0, with estimated peak winds of 70 mph.
It Lasted Just Two Minutes
The tornado touched down around 1:54 PM along Beaver Creek Road and stayed on the ground for about two minutes, lifting near Morgan Road.
Even though it was on the weaker side, it still left behind a trail of damage. Survey crews found broken tree limbs, an uprooted hardwood tree, damage to a sawmill, and a couple of sheds that had been tipped over with debris scattered across the property.
The tornado traveled just under a mile—about 0.87 miles—and reached a maximum width of 50 yards. The good news is there were no reported injuries or fatalities.
2026 Has Been an Unusually Active Year
With this latest confirmation, Central New York has now seen 12 confirmed tornadoes this season, making 2026 one of the busiest tornado years many longtime residents can remember.
