The orchards and berry fields of Upstate New York are very busy places this time of the year.  And more to come when the corn, squash, and pumpkins start taking over the spotlight.

The growing seasons come and go quickly so keep your eye out on your favorite local U-pick-ems or roadside fruit stands.  The tastes, the colors, and the variety is unlike anywhere else.  Here, we have listed some for you to consider this year.

We mainly focus on peaches and strawberries, because, speaking for myself, there is no better combination than putting fresh peaches and strawberries together.  In anything.  Pie, ice cream, etc.  They just go so well together.  I will admit, if Upstate New York could find a way to grow their own bananas, well, I'd have to substitute something for them (they are my favorite).  But I don't think I have to worry about seeing fresh picked bananas along the road sides of say Chenango, Lewis, or Chautauqua counties.  Well, not yet, anyway.

Of course there are more than a hundred of U-pick-ems and fruit farms with their little stands out by the roads.  So, we encourage you to go to our Facebook page and give your favorite farm, orchard, or fruit stand a shout out.  We would love to see a long and delicious list from our readers!  And keep an eye on this page, as we feature other "stars" of the Upstate growing season in coming galleries.

Enjoy Some New/Old Fun At These Upstate New York Pinball Arcades!

In my hometown growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, we had one pinball machine. In the whole town. It was at our little bowling alley. And there was always a line of quarters signifying who was "next up" to play. Well, there is no waiting now. This gallery looks at a short selection of modern pinball arcades around Upstate New York. Many of them are the new sparkly item of the times, while others definitely harken back to the old days of banging the sides of the machine while trying to avoid the dreaded "TILT" sign! If your favorite Upstate NY pinball arcade didn't make this list please visit our Facebook page and give it a shout out!
