All School Holidays for 2026-2027 New York State Public High Schools
The school year is right around the corner here in New York State and there is a list of current and newly added holidays that the academic school year will be following for the 2026-2027 school year.
Almost every district in New York State, at least public schools, will return this year for the 2026-2027 school year the day after Labor Day, meaning that the first day of school will be on September 8, 2026.
It is important to note that every district is different so please, make sure you check your own school calendar for the district that you are in. The major school districts in New York State follow these days off for the year.
- Labor Day: September 7, 2026 (Schools closed)
- Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples' Day: October 12, 2026 (Schools closed)
- Veterans Day: November 11, 2026 (Schools closed)
- Thanksgiving Recess: November 26 – 27, 2026 (Schools closed)
- Winter Recess: December 24, 2026 – January 1, 2027 (Schools closed)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day: January 18, 2027 (Schools closed)
- Midwinter Recess (Presidents' Day week): February 15 – 19, 2027 (Schools closed)
- Eid al-Fitr (End of Ramadan-Islamic)-March 9–10.
- Spring / Easter Recess: Varies by region/district (typically packed into late March or April)
- Memorial Day: May 31, 2027 (Schools closed)
- Juneteenth: June 19, 2027 (Schools closed)
