Hartwick presents ‘Chicago’
Lauren Pennino
The Hartwick College Theatre Arts Program will be performing the Broadway musical, “Chicago,” for its spring production.
The show will be running for two weekends. The opening weekend will be April 14 to 16 and the second weekend will be April 21 to 23. Each performance is at 8 p.m. in the Slade Theatre in Yager Hall on the Hartwick campus. Admission for Hartwick students and faculty is $5 and for the general public it is $10.
‘Chicago' takes place during the roaring 20's, with the two main characters being rival vaudevillian murderesses. Velma Kelly is serving time for killing her husband and sister after finding the two of them in bed together. Roxie Hart is put in jail for bumping off the lover she’s been cheating on her husband with. Both of them find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows.
The production is produced by Hartwick Associate Professor and Director of Theatre Arts Malissa-Kano-White. The musical is also choreographed by Alyssa Lundberg with scenic and lighting design by Joanna Carber.
This production has been submitted as an associate entry for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.
