Four Month Investigation Results in 2 Men Facing Felony Charges

It took a long investigation (four months) but the Delaware County Sheriff's Office has finally gotten their man.  Actually, their men!

On August 17, 2021, Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced that two suspects are now in custody onfelony charges as a result of approximately four-month long investigation of numerous burglaries within Delaware County.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, August 17, 2021 Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 911 call for a burglary reported on Fish Hollow Road, Town of Hamden. The home owner made the 911 call as a result of video captured over night by the home security system.  Review of the video revealed two subjects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, approaching the residence at approximately 1:30 a.m.  Upon their arrival, Deputies confirmed the home had been forcefully entered by the suspects.

Early Tuesday morning Randy L. Hawkins, of Morris, NY, was taken into custody by members of the New York State Police. Tuesday afternoon, George Klinger was taken into custody at his Morris residence by members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and NYS Police.  Members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police subsequently executed a search warrant at Hawkins’ and Klinger’s Morris residence and recovered a quantity of firearms, ammunition and other property reported stolen in recent Delaware County burglaries.

Hawkins and Klinger were later charged with the class B violent felony offenses of burglary in the first degree and criminal use of a firearm in the first degree and were arraigned in the Town of Hamden Court. Hawkins was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 cash bail and Klinger was remanded in lieu of $40,000 cash bail.

We salute the members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office for their dogged determination to bring this crime to an end.
