Attorney general Eric Schneiderman announced Wednesday a settlement with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield requiring the insurance carrier to refund plan members who overpaid health care providers as a result of improper accounting of deductibles.

Along with the $3 million settlement, Excellus is required to properly account for members' deductible and out of pocket expenses in order to prevent improper denials of claims in the future.
