(The following is a press release from The Oneonta Police Department)

Subsequent to the continuing investigation into a homicide that occurred Sunday, January 1, 2017 in the City of Oneonta, the victim has been identified as Mark J. Morrison, 52 years old of Oneonta, NY.    Morrison was found deceased in his bed by blunt force trauma to the head while at his apartment at 229 Main Street, Oneonta, NY.  The object used to cause the death of Mr. Morrison was a heavy weight that the suspect: Johshua P. Underwood, 25 years old, had used to strike him multiple times.

Further investigation revealed that Mr. Underwood was from Deposit, NY but had been staying with the victim for the past week.  Mr. Underwood has been arraigned in the City of Oneonta Court on felonies of:
- Murder in the second degree
- Attempted Arson in the second degree
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree

Underwood has been remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.  The investigation is continuing.
