Switching over to Daylight Savings and Standard Time time has been a point of contention among many for years and has even been debated on the state level, but it's never gotten anywhere in New York State legislature and we still observe a time change twice a year. Mark your calendar because the switch to Standard Time is coming up on November 7 at 2:00 am.

We all love to get an extra hour of sleep when we set the clocks back in the fall but the downside is that after setting the clocks back, it gets dark in the evening so early!  I'm not looking forward to darkness arriving in the 5:00 pm hour. It makes me feel ready for bed way too early and it really takes me a while to adjust on an energy level and on an emotional level after that time change.

According to WebMD.com, when we change the time by an hour twice per year, it affects the body's 24-hour natural cycle or circadian rhythm. That means our body's internal clock gets messed up a bit and has to adjust. Some people adapt to the change better than others. We are all different after all.

This event of the time changing always brings up the old controversy of getting rid of Daylight Savings Time.  People seem to feel strongly about this issue. In addition to the body adjusting to a time change and yes that phenomenon is real, there's the issue of changing all the clocks in the house and vehicles. In addition to my wristwatches (yes, I still wear one), I have 11 clocks to change in my house and I always seem to forget some of them.  Needless to say, I'm a fan of Daylight Savings Time all year round but I think most agree that Standard Time is probably the best overall, mostly because of the practical issue of kids waiting for buses early in the morning and it's certainly safer if it's light out at that time.

It's time to find out how you feel about time changes.
