Cuomo On Transgender Bathroom Law
By Rich Petschke
Governor Andrew Cuomo takes action on the news that the Trump administration rolls back a federal directive to schools that bathroom access for transgender students needs to be provided.
In a statement Cuomo says he’s urging the Education Department to issue a directive to all school districts making it clear that the rights and protections that had been extended to all students in New York remain unchanged under state law.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the former guidelines violated Title IX, which bars discrimination due to one’s sex.
