Cortland Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Shooting Police Officer
A man convicted of attempted murder for shooting a Cortland city police officer has received a long prison sentence.
Zachary Clark of Cortland was sentenced to 35 years to life on Thursday.
Clark was found guilty in June of several charges in connection with the March 2020 incident in which officer Chad Knapp was shot three times.
After the sentencing, Cortland County district attorney Patrick Perfetti praised the actions of police officers who had been involved in what turned into an 11-hour standoff with Clark.
Perfetti said the conduct of the officers who first responded to the shooting "was nothing less than heroic."
Clark locked himself inside his Elm Street home after Knapp was shot.
