On February 24, 2020 following an extensive investigation into graffiti on several businesses and private property, members of the Oneonta Police Department Patrol Division arrested;

Thomas R. Miller, 26 years old from Oneonta NY;

for the following offenses:

8 counts of Making Graffiti, (class A misdemeanor)
3 counts of Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, (class A misdemeanor)
2 counts of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree (class E felony)
1 count of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree as a hate crime (class D felony)
The hate crime extends from an offensive symbol that was painted on church property. The offenses occurred between November 2019 and February 2020 at various locations in the city of Oneonta including private property and local business.

The accused, Thomas R. Miller was issued an appearance ticket to appear at the City of Oneonta Court at a later date.

Mayor Herzig stated, “The perseverance of our dedicated officers sends a clear message that expressions of hate have no place in Oneonta and will not be tolerated. I thank Officer Amanda Catapano for her leadership in pursuing this arrest.”
