A dog park in Oneonta has been proposed many times may be closer to reality following the City of Oneonta’s Operations, Planning and Evaluations Committee (OPEC) meeting that took place this past Monday.

According to AllOTSEGO, Council member Dave Rissberger says that the council agreed to let City Manager George Korthauer, along with Parks and Recreation and Engineering to explore the costs, size and possible locations. There is a master plan that has been put together on the city’s website which has a dog park located behind the picnic shelter and the skate park.

The dog park would allow pet owners to bring their four-legged friends to the park and run around off-leash in an enclosed, fenced in area.  There would be two different areas: one for smaller dogs and one for larger dogs. See the plan below.  The "D" letter represents elements of the dog park.

Will Oneonta end up with a dog park?  Rissberger seems confident but it has to fit into the city’s budget.  In the meanwhile, OPEC will wait to hear from the city and what they come up with.
