On March 24, 2019 at approximately 5:35 p.m., New York State Police at Richfield Springs arrested Derek W. Zigon, age 26 of Cherry Valley, NY for the felonies of Assault in the second degree (two counts), Criminal Mischief in the third degree, the misdemeanors of Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration and Petit Larceny.

Troopers were dispatched to the area of Springfield Cemetery after a report that Zigon stole beer from Tom and Kelly’s Convenience Store then fled on State Route 80 in Springfield. Troopers learned that an off-duty Otsego County Deputy was actively pursuing Zigon. Troopers were able to catch up to Zigon who then shatter a window to gain entry into a residence on State Route 80. Patrols and Otsego Deputies located Zigon on the second floor of the residence where he actively resisted and kicked two troopers, injuring one’s lip and another’s wrist while kicking. Zigon was pepper sprayed to gain compliance and taken into custody. He was arraigned in the town of Springfield court where he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.
