Broome Authorities Confirm Apprehension of Orlando Tercero
Prosecutors are moving forward to prepare to present evidence to a grand jury in connection with the death of Binghamton University nursing school student Haley Anderson.
Broome County District Attorney Stephen Cornwell's office Wednesday issued a statement confirming 22-year-old Orlando Tercero had been apprehended in Nicaragua.
The statement indicated the office is working with Binghamton Police Department investigators to get the case against Tercero ready for a grand jury to consider.
Cornwell said upon an indictment from the grand jury, his office would file a warrant. The United State State Department would present the information to Nicaragua to move for Tercero's extradition to Broome County.
The district attorney's statement said "it would be inappropriate at this time to discuss the facts of the case."
Binghamton detectives believe Tercero killed Anderson in his apartment at 23 Oak Street on the city's West Side and flew to Nicaragua.
The body of the 22-year-old Westbury woman was discovered in the apartment early Friday afternoon.
