60 and Older? Starting Friday, No COVID Shot Appt. Needed at 16 NY Sites

New York State is making it even easier for older residents to access the COVID-19 vaccine. In fact, Governor Cuomo announced yesterday that as of this coming Friday (April 23), anyone who is 60 or older does NOT need to make an appointment in advance at a state-run vaccine site. This sure makes getting a vaccine much simpler for senior citizens who often struggle with technology and getting information on-line. This was certainly true for my parents who tried over and over to get appointments back when it was much more competitive. The hardest part for them was the on-line search of where to get an appointment and then registering fast enough so that the website wouldn't time-out on them before they could finish registering. It was only their perseverance that resulted in appointments for my mom and dad.

Sixteen New York State mass vaccination sites will follow this new rule. Cuomo says, "A robust vaccination program is vitally important to the public health, and we're working 24/7 to get shots in arms, protect New Yorkers and move the state forward."

Here's how it will work now for those 60 and older opting for a "walk'in" vaccine:
First of all, be prepared to wait because vaccine demand will vary on any given day or time. Also, just like those who pre-registered for appointments, walk-ins need to have a photo ID (proof of identity), along with any insurance information (if you have it).

As of Wednesday, just under 30% of New York State's population has been fully vaccinated, and just over 42% have received at least one shot.
