SUNY Oneonta reported yesterday that 44 more students tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and are in isolation on campus. That brings the virus positive total up to 289. Currently, 54 students are quarantining on campus while 125 are in isolation. Since last Friday when the virus testing first began, more than 2,500 students and 200 staff members have been tested. More test results from hundreds of students are expected today with updating information on SUNY Oneonta's website following. The latest information can be accessed at suny.oneonta.edu/covid-19.

To distinguish the difference between Isolation and quarantining students:
Isolation is removing an infected person from a community so they can't spread the disease. SUNY Oneonta officials have a designated residence hall where COVID positive students are housed and taken care of until they are no longer infectious.

Those in quarantine are restricted to sheltering in place since it is not known if they are infectious. College officials say that in this case, the campus is quarantining in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the campus and to the community.
