A traffic safety road check in the town of Milford over the weekend resulting in the discovery of more than $36,000 worth of marijuana.

According to the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, Daniel Gaynor, 39, of Portlandville, was in possession of more than 12 pounds of marijuana. Three pounds were found in his truck during a traffic safety check on County Road 35 in the town of Milford after deputies noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from his vehicle.

A search of Gaynor’s home brought in more than nine pounds of marijuana, along with more than $15,000 in cash, a scale, plastic bags for packaging and 10 hydrocodone tablets.

Gaynor was also allegedly driving on a revoked license for a DWI in 2012, and did not have an ignition lock installed as required by law.

Gaynor was arraigned in town of Milford court on two counts of felony criminal possession of marijuana along with other vehicle infractions.

He was remanded to the Otsego County correctional facility on $15,000 cash bail. If convicted Gaynor could face up to 5 years in prison.
