NYSEG and RG&E, together rank seventh in the nation in the number of participants in a utility wind energy program, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory ranking of “green” power programs.

At the close of last year, 21,201 NYSEG and RG&E customers were purchasing clean, renewable wind energy through the Catch the Wind program – approximately 70 percent of the participants are NYSEG customers and approximately 30 percent are RG&E customers.

NYSEG’s wind energy program began in August 2002; RG&E’s program began in April 2004. The programs are offered in partnership with Community Energy Inc., a leading developer and marketer of renewable energy.
