SUNY Oneonta Student Found Dead in Off-Campus Apartment

A SUNY Oneonta student died in his off-campus residence Thursday night.

Mark Deroziere, 22 of Schoharie, was found unresponsive by another SUNY Oneonta student sometime after 9 p.m. at an East Street apartment.

The Oneonta Police Department and emergency personnel from the Oneonta Fire Department responded to the scene, where Deroziere was declared dead.

The cause of death is pending a coroner's report.

Deroziere was a junior at the college. School officials contacted his family and his housemates have all been notified.

Members of the college's counseling staff also were informed and are supporting students.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mark Deroziere," said SUNY Oneonta president Nancy Kleniewski in a statement to all students and the campus community. "The sympathy of our entire community is with his family and friends. The college has reached out to them to offer our condolences."
