The deluge Oneonta experienced on Monday night did some damage to roadways as well as to City Hall in downtown Oneonta.  The daylight of Tuesday has revealed more damage.

The Gas Avenue entrance to Neahwa Park (off Market Street) is closed indefinitely.  Water from the flooding caused a large sinkhole to open up just before the railroad tracks and the entrance to the park.

The creek which flows around the perimeter of Neahwa Park on the ball field side is usually just a small stream.  However it is now gorged with the several inches of rain that fell and the three culverts underneath the Gas Avenue bridge are trying hard to handle the large amount of water.  Take a look.  You will see that one of the large culverts, the one in the middle, is completely plugged up by debris.

We will announce the opening of the Gas Avenue entrance to the park when we are advised of it.
