One Southern Tier Casino Contender Drops Bid

The field of players looking to land one of four Upstate New York casino licenses is changing days before the deadline for filing a $1 million dollar application fee.

April 21, Vista Hospitality in Binghamton said it would drop its bid for the Southern Tier license, leaving Tioga Downs in Nichols, Traditions at the Glen in the Town of Union and mall developer Wilmorite of Rochester, that is proposing its resort in Seneca County, still in the running.

Also on the 21st, owners of Traditions at the Glen announced they had paid the $1 million application fee ahead of the April 23 deadline.

The state’s gaming commission is scheduled to hold a conference on April 30 for the license applicants who have paid their filing fee.

The owners of the Saratoga Casino and Raceway are changing their plans for a casino in Saratoga Springs following objections from voters in the county.

The developers now say they are looking to get a license to operate a casino in Rensselaer County, across the Hudson River from Albany.
