SUNY Oneonta announced Wednesday that the band Gym Class Heroes is scheduled to play a concert during homecoming weekend Oct. 27.

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. at Alumni Fieldhouse. Tickets are available through oneontatickets.com.

Gym Class Heroes formed in Geneva, NY, when Matt McGinley, a SUNY Oneonta alumnus, met and befriended Travie McCoy during their high school gym class.

The band has an eclectic blend of hip hop, funk, reggae and pop and was formed in 1997. McGinley attended SUNY Oneonta from 2001-2004. During that time the group was signed to Fueled by Ramen and Decaydance Record.

They rose to fame with their single "Cupid's Chokehold" and won MTV's Best New Artist award in 2007. They duplicated their success with "Stereo Hearts", and their current hit "The Fighter" is nominated for Best Video with a Message for the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards.

They were also featured in the popular VH1 series "Behind the Music" (watch full episode below).
