A former Otsego County woman is dead, her husband accused of shooting her outside a women's shelter in South Carolina.

WYFF in Spartanburg, South Carolina reports that Mariann O'Shields died on the operating table, but prior to going into surgery had managed to inform authorities that she'd been shot by her estranged husband, Robert Lee O'Shields.

WKTV in Utica reports that Mariann had been living at a hostel for victims of domestic abuse and had an order of protection against her husband. She had previously reported him for failing to maintain the rules of the order of protection.

The shooting occurred in the morning of Wednesday April 30th, outside the Safe Homes hostel where she had been living for several weeks. It is reported that her Robert O'Shields pulled up in a van and shot her twice in the midsection. ABC News reports that she had just put her daughter on the school bus.

Robert O'Shields is now in custody, accused of murder, violation of an order of protection, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He is being held without bail.

Mariann Eileen O'Shields, 55, was formerly of Edmeston and South New Berlin. She has family in Pittsfield and Oneonta.
