Coming up on Saturday, September 17th, Wightman Specialty Woods in Portlandville, NY will not only be hosting their 23rd Annual Open House but they're turning the event up several notches into a Lumberfest with all kinds of activities for the surrounding communities.  This event is held in cooperation with the New York State Lumberjacks Association (NYSLA) to showcase the sport's best athletes competing in a variety of lumberjack events.

The Lumberfest Facebook page shares details on the timbersports competition side of this event at Wightman Woods.  You can see Lumberjacks and Lumberjills in a variety of jaw dropping competitions, sure to impress like springboarding, jack and jill sawing, hot saws, and much more.

In addition to the Lumberfest, there will be plenty to see and do with your family at Wightman Woods.  Historical Cooper, Bob Alhers will be demonstrating the art of coopering, there will also be opportunities for you to ride the rails the way track gangs used to in a railroad track speeder car provided by Leatherstocking Railroad Association.  The rides will head south from Portlandville.   There will also be tours of the lumber mill at Wightman, Hanford Mills museum will be there, and kids can build their own bird feeder to take home. Plus the Milford Fire Department will be having a chicken barbecue on site.  This event runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 17th.
