Summer is here and I am ready for some ice cream.  Are you?

There are so many great spots in our area to choose from so it is difficult to name a favorite but I will.

I enjoy Gilligan's Island in Chenango County when I am heading up to Syracuse.  And I love Mac-a-Doodles on Main Street in Stamford.  Glad to see the Polar Bear has opened in a new spot just over Franklin Mountain.  The Tastee Freeze  has been on Sidney's Riverside since I was a kid.  Hoppie's in Oxford is a real slice of Americana.  Jay's in Fly Creek is dipped in 1950s nostalgia (don't miss all the old metal lunchboxes along the walls) and Sprinkles in Otego is a favorite of my kids.  And so many others.

But I am going to pick the Golden Guernsey in Oneonta.  Darlene and her staff crank out great cones, sundaes, shakes and treats year-round at one of Oneonta's iconic roadside stands.  I have never had a bad experience there and now that it is summer I look forward to many warm nights heading over for a medium cone (even I can't handle their large cone) to enjoy out front, in the car or during a walk in the park across the road.

It is a great little spot.

What is your favorite local  ice cream stand? (Otsego, Delaware and Chenango Counties)
