Tioga Downs Opens on Kentucky Derby Weekend
Just in time for the Run for the Roses, Tioga Downs is set to welcome back horse racing fans for the 2021 season on Saturday, May 1 with proper COVID-19 guidelines.
The pandemic cancelled most of the season last year and there were no spectators allowed in the stands. But fans and wagering are back in time for the Kentucky Derby this weekend, which traditionally marks the start of harness racing at Tioga Downs in Nichols.
The track and casino in Tioga County says live harness racing returns at 5 p.m. Saturday. Spectators will be allowed to enter the grandstand and trackside viewing through the Mutuels Lobby with a capacity limit of 20 percent
Spectators must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before attending or show proof of vaccination on entrance to each event.
Mask-wearing and physical distancing will be enforced at all times.
Self-betting terminals will be available for wagering and a limited number of tellers will be available to cash in winning tickets.
P.J. Clarke’s Patio will be open by reservation only Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. Guests should call (607) 414-1121 to make a reservation.
