Certain districts have added new holidays to the school year. There has been at least 1 added in every school district and up to 4.

USDA officials are getting ready to ban chocolate milk from elementary and middle schools, if approved, in the future. They are saying there is just way too much added sugar. In fact, the flavored milk is the leading source of added sugar.

USA facts and US News & World Report state that New York teachers' average salary is $76,680 – the highest in the United States.

The New York State Union of Teachers is pushing for higher wages amid the national teacher shortage facing public schools.

If signed, it will allow them to retire early without penalty.

Dozens of New York school districts have not submitted teacher evaluation plans, despite the risk of losing badly needed state aid. The State Department of Education says about 615 out of about 700 total districts have submitted evaluation plans. So far, the education department has only approved 253 of those and provided feedback to more than 500.
