The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance is reminding older residents that the deadline to apply for property tax savings through Enhanced STAR property tax exemption is March 1st.

When are STAR checks being sent? You WILL NOT get a STAR check or direct deposit if you and your spouse make over a combined $500,000 a year.

There is confirmation that by mid-September, the New York State Star checks will be mailed out to eligible homeowners. The average check statewide is $778 for the Basic STAR check and $1,407 for Enhanced STAR.

If you are a homeowner, get ready for your check to come in the mail and if you do not see it, make sure that you contact your town or village. The average homeowner will get $778.
