April is Autism Awareness Month. Autism and autism spectrum disorder are neurological disorders that impact human development, especially in the areas of socialization, communication and behavior. Many, but not all people with autism have an intellectual disability.

In Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 30-day amendment to the state’s budget, one of the proposals is a budget cut to the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. OPWDD, which includes Springbrook, Pathfinder Village and ARC Otsego are all volunteer providers.

The month of March is the time of year for basketball tournaments. Springbrook, which recently completed a $22.5 million expansion, will be hosting its first ever invitational Special Olympics basketball tournament at noon Saturday.
