Albany, NY (WIBX) - New York public school students could spend more hours and more days in school if a reform commission's recommendations are adopted.

The New York Education Reform Commission yesterday made proposals for school improvement.

It also recommended teacher competency exams, pre-kindergarten classes and recruiting top college students to become teachers.

Governor Andrew Cuomo cautioned that there was little money for expanding programs.

He said that he was more interested in finding ways to do more with the resources that the state already has.
