Smithville Stabbing Suspects Snared

Two men are in the Chenango County Correctional Facility following a stabbing at a residence in Smithville last Friday. The Chenango County Sheriff's department responded to a residence on Oak Street at about noon last Friday, where a 20-year-old man had been stabbed.

Deputies found a suspect, Jabel J. Rodriguez and arrested him on a violent felony assault charge and remanded him to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $20,000 cash bail.

Another suspect, Luis Al Mestica, was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and is in jail on $1000 cash bail. The investigation continues and more arrests are expected.

The victim, whose name has not been identified, was sent to a local hospital where he is recovering.
