U.S. Senator Charles Schumer urged Stubhub, TicketExchange and other resale websites not to make it easy for scalpers profiteering off the resale of tickets for the “12/12/12 the concert for Sandy Relief”.

The concert was created to benefit victims of Superstorm Sandy and will feature world famous performers at Madison Square Garden.

Almost immediately after tickets went on sale through Ticketmaster, however, the concert was sold out partly due to scalpers purchasing tickets to resell online at greatly inflated prices.

Tickets are currently being sold for as much as $60,000 on the site.

Stubhub has already taken the step of donating their usual fees and proceeds to the relief efforts, and has included an option on its website where those who are selling the tickets can voluntarily donate the money to charity.

Schumer is asking StubHub, TicketExchange and other websites to take these actions a step further and prohibit the sale of tickets for this concert through their website, unless the difference between the original purchase price and the resale price goes to charity.
