RCIL Commends Passage Of Disability Rights Legislation

The state Senate and Assembly have passed legislation to reinstate the Office of the Advocate for People With Disabilities.

The office was originally created under Governor Mario Cuomo and has been unfunded and unstaffed for several years.

The Resource Center for Independent Living strongly supports the legislation and is encouraging Governor Andrew Cuomo to sign it.

RCIL says the reinstatement of the office would provide a vital advocacy voice for people with disabilities.

The passage of the legislation has been a top legislative priority for the disability rights community for may years.

RCIL CEO Zvia McCormick said, "We join our partners in the disability rights community in expressing appreciation to Members of the Assembly and Senate who supported this worthy effort. We are hopeful Governor Cuomo will stand with, and give a voice to, the millions of New Yorkers who live with a disability."
