Felony arson charges have been handed down in a Town of Springfield fire on May 22 that damaged a camper and an abandoned farmhouse. According to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, a Town of Cherry Valley man started the fire in the camper at a Briar Hill Road address which ultimately spread to the farmhouse.

Following and investigation which determined that the fire was suspicious, the investigation led to the arrest of 49-year-old Jason R. Tracy of Cherry Valley who was charged with Arson in the 3rd and 4th degree, both felonies. Tracy was arraigned then released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in Town of Springfield court.

No one was injured in the fire which was put out with mutual aid from multiple fire districts. No information about motive for setting the fire or anything else was released by the Sheriff's Office.
