Typically, when we hear about a domestic dispute involving a man and woman, the man is usually the physical attacker but it was the reverse for an act of domestic violence that took place yesterday evening at 7 Fonda Avenue according to City of Oneonta Police.

Following an initial investigation by City of Oneonta Patrol and Detective Division with assistance from the New York State Police Forensic Identification Unit., Police say that two people were involved in a domestic dispute at that residence, one of which was 36-year-old Melissia A. Scott of Oneonta who ended up stabbing a 34-year-old male with a large knife, producing a serious wound that bled uncontrollably.
The male victim was immediately taken by a private vehicle to Fox Hospital in Oneonta but later transported to Albany Medical Center due to the seriousness of the wound. The victim's health status is not yet known.
Oneonta Police arrested Scott who was in lockup awaiting an arraignment with a recommended District Attorney bail of $15,000 cash or $150,000 bond and has been charged with Assault in the first degree (intention to cause another serious physical harm with a deadly weapon or instrument) and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
The first charge, Assault in the first degree, is punishable by up to 25 years in prison, and the second charge of Criminal possession of a weapon third degree is punishable by up to 7 years if found guilty.
