O’Connor Hospital Now Has UV Light Disinfection Technology
With the introduction of the COVID-19 virus, hospitals everywhere have been more challenged than ever to keep patients and staff safe. It just got easier for O’Connor Hospital (OCH) in Delhi, a part of the Bassett Healthcare Network. The hospital has acquired ultraviolet (UV) light disinfection technology to supplement its methods for sanitizing clinical areas according to hospital officials. UV light kills microorganisms by disrupting their cell membranes and damaging their DNA, stifling their ability to reproduce and live. This technology has been around for a while and is becoming increasingly popular in medical settings.

Timothy Whitaker, MD, vice president of Medical Affairs for the southern division of Bassett Healthcare Network, says “OCH is proud of its historically low infection rates. This UV equipment will supplement OCH’s current sterilization procedures and further reinforce patient safety in all clinical areas, including its procedure rooms, inpatient floors, and Emergency Department.”
