New York is again offering financial assistance to those suffering from serious health issues who need to purchase an air conditioner. Applications are now being accepted through the Home Energy Assistance Program at a resident’s county department of social services. Applicants must meet existing HEAP eligibility criteria and income guidelines and at least one member of the household needs to have documented proof of the medical condition exacerbated by extreme heat. $6 million is allocated to the program on a first come, first served basis.
