New York State now requires pharmacies to inform patients within three days of any drug recalls made by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under a new law, Bill S5091B. According to Governor Cuomo's office, the drugs which are categorized as Class I have a high probability of causing serious adverse health consequences or death. The severity of health risks associated with the use of these recalled drugs is particularly high for elderly patients and those taking long-term medications. The law requires pharmacies to contact patients by phone or mail.
