New York State has new laws to crack down on “storm chasers,” the unscrupulous contractors taking advantage of homeowners when a natural disaster strikes a community and exploiting that need for home repair services by either perform sub-standard work that must be redone, or no work at all.

According to Governor Cuomo's office, the legislation creates robust consumer protections in roofing contracts and prohibits these contractors from using insurance deductibles as inducements to entering into an agreement for services. This legislation becomes effective in 180 days.
