UPDATE 5:40 PM: ALL THE FARM ANIMALS HAVE BEEN RE-HOMED.
Thank you SO much for all your shares and concern. Details on the 9 dogs and 1 cat are currently confidential but they are all safe and being cared for at the shelter.
Earlier this morning, the SAS acquired custody of 102 animals after assisting the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department in an animal cruelty investigation. The animals include: 9 dogs, 1 cat, 20 pigs, 7 donkeys, 13 chickens, 3 ducks, 13 sheep, 25 geese, 7 rabbits, 1 guinea hen, 2 parakeets, 1 pigeon and 1 tortoise. This case is ongoing and we will keep you updated with new information and details as we are able to.
Through networking with the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department and the veterinarian who assisted with the rescue, many of the animals already have new homes. By 2:00pm today, the animals were surrendered to the shelter and by 5:45 ALL of the farm animals have found new homes. The dogs and cat are being cared for at the shelter and their status is currently confidential, but we will keep you updated!
We are SO grateful to everyone who has already stepped up and offered their help!!! Huge thanks to the folks who have taken in the farm animals and to all the amazing volunteers and Hartwick/SUNY Oneonta students who came today to help us care for the animals!!! Thanks to our wonderful staff and to Jill Basile and Shannon Butler for being rock stars! We always say this- but it really takes a village!
