Tuesday was Election Day, with the race for the Presidency of the United State at the forefront. President Barack Obama was reelected for another term in office, defeating republican challenger Governor Mitt Romney.

In the race for 51st State Senate District, Republican incumbent Senator James Seward was re-elected overwhelmingly over Democrat challenger Howard Lieb.

Senator Seward addressed an overflow crowd at his campaign headquarters in Oneonta. He thanked his family and supporters and said while he is pleased Albany is making strides, there is more work to be done.

Senator Kirstin Gillibrand was re-elected to the senate; and congressman Richard Hanna winning his 2nd term in office in the new 22nd Congressional District;

On the state level our representatives remained in office. Senator Tom Libous won another term, assemblymen Lopez, Crouch, Finch and Magee were also re-elected along with the above mentioned Seward.

In Chenango County, the race most were concerned with was the contest for County Judge. Republican Frank Revoir was the victor with 61 percent of the vote over his Democratic opponent Diane DiStefano with 38 percent of the vote.

In the Town of Afton, Robert Talmadge won a 1 year term as councilman; in the Town of Bainbridge David DeClue won a 3 year term on the town council; and in the Town of Norwich Stanley Foulds was elected to a 1 year term as councilman.; in Smithville, Karl Ludwig was elected to a 1 year term as councilman, and in the Town of Smyrna Ludwig was the victor in the race for town supervisor with nearly 79 percent of the vote.

All other races in chenango county were unopposed.

Other Results:

In the race for the 19th Congressional District, Republican incumbent Congressman Chris Gibson defeated Democrat challenger Julian Schreibman.

In the race for the 101st assembly district Republican incumbent Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney defeated Democrat challenger Daniel Carter.

In the race for the 121st assembly district Democrat incumbent Assemblyman Bill Magee defeated Republican challenger Levi Spires.

In the race for the 102nd assembly district, Republican incumbent Assemblyman Peter Lopez defeated democrat challenger James Miller.
