The roads in the Hudson Valley take us to so many places. They can bring us to our jobs, our friends and families homes and back to our residence too. Certain Hudson Valley roads make our lives easier whether it provides us with less traffic or a way to get somewhere quicker.

We usually rely on roads that we travel on, to always be there. Sometimes we also wonder if the potholes will get fixed, haha.

In Orange County, NY, residents have been explaining why they believe an exit in the area should not close.

Will This Popular Exit In The Hudson Valley Actually Close?

The Village of Warwick made a post on Facebook about the potential closure of a popular exit in Orange County, NY. They shared,

Permanent Closure of Exit 127 - DOT Open House Meeting, Chester"

"The NYS Department of Transportation is proposing to permanently close Exit 127 off Route 17 as part of its I-86 expansion project—despite strong opposition from the Town and Village of Chester, Town and Village of Warwick, and many local residents and business owners.”

The Village of Warwick also included that this popular exit is "essential" and allows us to get to the Warwick and Sugar Loaf area easily. This exit brings tourism to the Orange County, NY community as well.

Does The Hudson Valley Community Have Any Say In Closure Of Popular Exit?

The Village of Warwick had a meeting about this issue in the Town Hall on May 6, 2025. They encouraged residents to attend it.

Since 2024, there’s been a petition on Change.org to keep Exit 127 on Route 17 in the Chester, NY area. There are over 670 signatures on this petition.

Several Hudson Valley residents have shared their opinions about this matter on social media. The majority of Hudson Valley residents want to keep this exit open which allows the community to stay connected and travel without hassle.

In addition to Facebook users, James Skoufis made a post on social media in April 2025 with his opinions about the closing of this exit.

He included statements such as,

"I am frustrated with DOT’s decision to permanently close the Sugar Loaf Exit 127 off Route 17."

"While it’s not the outcome I was hoping for, I’m glad this area will be receiving necessary upgrades, including a new traffic circle at the current (messy) intersection of Kings Highway and Route 17M."

In the comments section of Skoufis’s post, other Facebook users shared that they think that the pot holes in New York state should be fixed instead of closing an important exit. Others shared that they recommended that they expand exit 127 and give it multiple lanes.
