Entire Fleet Of School Busses Vandalized In Schenectady
On the morning of Tuesday, October 13th, the Durham School District in Schenectady found themselves in a massive predicament.
Issues caused over the holiday weekend led to a cascade of problems that have made travelling to and from school an impossibility for students in the district.
Vandalism
On the morning of October 13th, the Schenectady Police Department was made aware of an issue with Durham School District's bus fleet. At 5:40 a.m. they were contacted by Durham Transportation and told that their lot at 500 Sterling Avenue was broken into.
Every bus in the Durham fleet was vandalized. Police believe that this act happened sometime over the holiday weekend, which ran from Saturday, October 10th through Monday, October 12th. Due to the vandalization, none of the busses in the fleet were able to complete their routes on Tuesday morning.

How Did the District Carry On?
Students were expected to make it to classes on Tuesday morning regardless of the situation. The Schenectady City School District released a statement at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon explaining the situation.
They stated that, due to contribution from local transportation vendors, the schools would offer bus transportation in the afternoon for all students who typically commute with them.
Those drivers used new and adjusted routes, which led some to arrive at their destinations slightly later than normal. In addition, after school extracurricular activities continued as normal, and those students who were eligible also received transportation back home.
Schenectady Police say the incident is still under investigation.
