The Savannah Bananas Are Bringing Banana Ball To Upstate New York

Ever since the Harlem Globetrotters took the scene in 1926, sports have been trying to catch up. Their signature style of circus level basketball has seemed impossible to replicate, and for around 90 years, that stayed true.

Now, baseball has their own version, and it's taken America by storm. That storm is now headed directly for Upstate New York...

Who are the Savannah Bananas

Founded in 2016 in Savannah, Georgia, the Savannah Banas started as a struggling collegiate team who quickly became an actual contender in the coastal Plain League. In 2018, the team introduced "Banana Ball", a format of the game that focused more on fan fun than the actual result of the game.

Banana Ball has some odd rules, like a foul ball being caught by a fan counting as an out, but audiences loved it. In 2020, they introduced the Party Animals, a rival team that played the Bananas in Banana Ball contests. Unlike the Washington Generals (the Globetrotters opponent), these games are unscripted, and any outcome is possible, as long as they play by the Bananas untraditional rules.

The first will take place in Cooperstown on May 29th and 30th, the second in Buffalo on June 10th and 11th, and the last will take place in Rochester on July 2nd and 3rd.
