Lake George Named One of America’s Hottest Housing Markets
Anyone who has spent time in Lake George knows why people fall in love with it. The mountain views, beautiful lakes, and chance to have a boat dock outside your door are hard to beat.
Apparently, homebuyers across the country agree.
Lake George ranked #7 among the hottest housing markets in the country for the third quarter of 2026, according to The Albany Business Review. That puts our Adirondack getaway alongside places like Palm Beach, Florida, and Newport Coast, California.
What Are The Criteria?
The ranking looks at places where housing activity is picking up, prices are climbing, or homes are selling faster. It does not simply mean these are the most expensive places to live.
Interest in Lake George homes took off during the pandemic and has stayed strong, especially for waterfront properties and homes with docks.
What Are People Looking For?
Many buyers are looking for a second home or vacation retreat. Some pay cash, which means higher mortgage rates do not affect their decisions as much. Buyers are also coming from beyond the Northeast, including Texas, California, and other countries.
Of course, owning that slice of paradise comes with a hefty price tag. Some lakefront properties listed for sale are sprawling estates with private shoreline, boathouses, and multiple fireplaces. One is even a restored Gilded Age mansion.
Still, a hot market does not mean every house sells overnight. Homes can sit for several months before finding a buyer.
Lake George also has local company. Hudson ranked #52, while Queensbury landed at #55.
