
Motorcade Honoring 44 Fallen Patriots Traveling From Albany to Lake George
War Patriots to be Transported to Final Resting Place
The remains of 44 people believed to be connected to the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War will make a solemn journey from Albany to Lake George later this month as part of the “Repose of the Fallen” project.
According to a press release, town officials announced that the remains, discovered in 2019 during construction work near Courtland Street in Lake George, will be transported on May 20 from the New York State Museum to a new memorial at Lake George Battlefield Park.

Soldiers May Have Passed from Smallpox
Scientists and historians have spent the last seven years analyzing and reconstructing the remains, which are believed to belong to soldiers or support personnel who died in 1776 during the failed invasion of Canada. Historians say many Continental Army troops died from smallpox while stationed near the southern end of Lake George.
A motorcade featuring historic Korean and Vietnam-era military vehicles will leave Albany around 10 a.m. on May 20th, escorted by the New York State Police and members of the Patriot Guard Riders.
Motorcade on May 20th to Pass Several Communities
According to the press release, the procession will travel north along Route 9 through several Capital Region communities, including Clifton Park, Malta, Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, and Queensbury, before arriving in Lake George around noon.
Most of the remains will immediately be interred at the new memorial site, which includes memorial plazas, seating, and interpretive displays honoring the fallen patriots. A formal dedication ceremony is scheduled for May 22nd.
