One Upstate NY University Is Making Tuition FREE (For Some People)
I went to school at THE University of Florida. As the flagship University of the state, it's obviously ridiculously expensive to attend, which drives away a lot of potential new students. Luckily, the state of Florida's "Bright Futures Scholarship" allows for any resident of the state to attend school in-state for free.
I'd always wished a program like that could be adopted nationwide, and it seems that one Upstate NY University has gotten the ball rolling.

Free Tuition at Colgate
Located in Madison County, in the heart of the state, lies Colgate University. In a stunning move, they announced on Monday, October 7th that the university would make tuition free for students whose families make $175,000 or less per year.
University President Brian W. Casey has stated that this new program will open the school to "more exceptional students from all walks of life". This will be the third time in recent history that the University has expanded their highly acclaimed "Colgate Commitment", allowing more and more students to take advantage of everything Colgate has to offer, without breaking the bank.
Other Financial Changes
Aside from the free tuition for certain students, Colgate is helping out other families in middle and upper-middle class as well. Families making $175,000 to $200,000 will only pay around 5% of their income for tuition, while families making $200,000 to $250,000 will only pay 7%.
Lastly, families earning $250,000 to $300,000 will have to pay 10% of their income for tuition, making higher education in the state of New York insanely affordable for those who may not have had the chance to attend schools that ask for absurdly high tuition fees.
