How Old Is The Capital Region’s Population?
We all age. One moment, you're a bright eyed teenager waiting to take on the world, and the next, you're praying for ten extra minutes of sleep before work every morning.
As a major population hub, New York obviously sees its fair share of every age range, but which one is the most prevalent here in the Capital Region?

Average Age of the Capital Region
The Capital Region is made up of 11 counties, each with their own average ages and distinct populations. The youngest of these is Albany county, with an average age of around 38 years old. On the opposite side of the spectrum is Columbia County, which houses an average age of 49.5.
Of those 11 counties, 6 are older than average for New York State, while the remaining 5 are younger than the average. This means that overall, the Capital Region is older than most of New York State, but we have to take into consideration population centers.
Is The Capital Region Really Older than New York's Average?
New York is, by all measures, a pretty young state. With an average overall age of 39.6 years old, it's the 22nd oldest state in America, just slightly above the national average.
Compared to Albany's youngest and largest county, Albany is just slightly younger than the state as a whole, and barely younger than the United States average of 38.2 years old. This means that the Capital region sits just around the median, with a slightly younger population than you'd expect everywhere else in every state in America.
