That includes our drinking water, which can become contaminated with deadly disease, and we'd never know. That's why it's always a smart idea to boil your water before use.

Why You Should Boil Water
Water isn't just a life-giver to humans, it helps literally every living thing on planet earth. That includes disease causing organisms like Protozoa, bacteria, and viruses that can be detrimental to our immune system.
As such, the New York Department of Health suggests boiling your water before drinking if you believe something is off. They recommend that you keep your water boiling for a full minute, and then (THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART) cooling the water down to safe temperatures before use. Please don't try to drink actively boiling water. I beg you.
Boil Water Advisory Troy
On March 16th, 2026, City of Troy Mayor Carmella Mantello announced that a Boil Water Advisory would be put in place for certain areas in the city.
Miami Estates, Hialeah Dr. & Grange Rd. are the areas meant to be following this advisory, and they're meant to start complying on March 17th. The length of the advisory is undisclosed, but residents will be alerted when it is lifted.
In the meantime, boil your water before use, and drink as much bottled water as you can in order to avoid any slip ups.
