If there's one group of people I trust to judge pizza, it's the Italians. They basically invented the entire concept (sorry Mesopotamia, Flatbread doesn't count).

Obviously, because of Immigration patterns in the early 20th Century, the Northeast became a Pizza powerhouse, and now, some of our favorite pizza joints are being recognized by our cousins overseas...

The Best Pizza in the U.S.

Every year, culinary experts from across Italy come together to rank the best pizza spots across the world. They break these down by country as well, and of course, there's so many on the list from New York (surprise, surprise).

The number one in the country is, of course, in New York City: Una Pizza Napoletana (which is certainly deserving of the title). It's not just all New York City, though, Florida, California, Virginia, and more had restaurants crack the top 50. Of course, all we're worried about is just north of the Big Apple.

Best Pizza in Upstate NY

Two different Upstate Pizzerias made the Top-50, and they're both in Western New York.

The first is Pizzeria Florian (#40), in East Aurora, NY. It's a simple, efficient, and classy spot, focusing not on quantity, but on quality with a focused selection of red and white pizzas, beers, wines, and a few cocktails.

The second is Jay's (#7) in Kenmore, NY. It was founded in 2017, and has grown into a semi-fusion restaurant. They serve both Neapolitan and Detroit-style, bringing both authentic and new-age pizza to the masses.

Sure, there's some other spots I would have voted for, but why would I argue with the Italians.
